This is not a joke. In the UK, it was proposed in jest. At the same time, it was suggested to Parliament by Baroness Jenny Jones. The whole commotion came about because of the disappearance of Sarah Everard. Because of her disappearance, authorities warned that women might want to use
cause before venturing outdoors alone in the evening. In response, the Baroness thought it would be safer if men remained locked in the home after 6:00 pm.Needless to say, the Baroness’ statements were not taken kindly. Men and women have lit up social media as a result.
The irony is Sarah was abducted and murdered by Wayne Couzens who is a police officer who has patrol duties on diplomatic premises. While the crime is an outrage, penalizing all men would never be a wise solution. Studies show strict imposing laws tend to backfire and increase violence.
With that said, more and more women in London are saying they feel unsafe walking the streets of the UK. Women are suggesting men take extra precautions to avoid contact with women in public.
Will this mindset make its way to the US. Let’s discuss.
